Snow Snow and this is what i long for :)

This is what i long to see these days. blue skies and warm weather and sunny beaches where i can run with the kids in my bear feet too.

BUT NO !!!!!!!!!!! instead we have ..............
snow.... snow ...snow & more snow .......... ugh!!!! Seems like all it does is snow. But i did finally get out yesterday for a trip to Joann's and to the grocery store. these days I have been reduced to begging for rides. Hubby took pity on me and finally got me out. I hear tell if i am lucky maybe today i will get to go out for dinner. We will see. hubby has to go way to far to get to and from work. and i do hate asking him to go anywhere with me when he is working split shifts.

today you cant see the Mt's at all snow is just falling like crazy and in between parked cars there is enough snow to make you think there may be a car buried under there but i assure you its nothing but snow. its getting to the point we have no place left to put it .

i get up every morning now around 3 am simply because the snow plows are so noisy gesh talk about major sound scrappppppppppppp drive plow scrapppppppppp drive plow . over and over and over its like fingernail's on a chalk board.

Fishing trip notes about the slide shows above or below ?

when my son was serving in the Navy and deployed to Iraq my hubby and two of our friends thought it would be nice if they took me on a fishing trip off to one of the most breath taking tiny islands with the most spectacual views i have ever seen . i posted 4 slide shows of the event with the best of the best of photos for you all to enjoy . in all i took well over 200 pictures of the event .

the view i have from my windows

Just another snowy day in Alaska

For me to go anywhere these days its a real chore . Driving can be very slow and it can also become very interesting in a heart beat and by that i mean one min. your on the road doing fine heading in a forward motion next min your spinning around as though you were in your moms old washing machine hanging on waiting for the cycle to stop.
yesterday hubby and i went to Joann's so i could pick up some items i needed for Da Egg which i blogged about on knitmewarm.
All in all it wasn't a bad outing i think being in Alaska were pretty used to driving on snow and ice. If we weren't we would be sitting at home all the time as it is were out and about most days no matter what the weather is in our 4 wheel drive truck that is rarely on foot not at these temps .
the trip out is 12 miles one way so its quite a haul going out there and back. but it sure is breath taking no matter what kind of weather .
and the last few pictures were taken this am out of my kitchen window. more of those kinds to come
meanwhile joining all the weather hostages across America were being kept in today with temps of 17 degrees and to think last week we were at 40 ugh.
i wont say cal gone take me away no way i just want spring to get here. all this up and down weather has me thinking mother nature is definitely menopausal LOL

I tell you this bog is the only one i seem to have trouble with and it is the original one among the three i do have. of all things.
i cant seem to get the comments to even show up or a title bar just a label bar down below the window you type in so i don't get it .
but that shouldn't stop me from yaking away in here right?
today its 6:14 am and mid night black out there still. and the temp is 34 degrees . no snow on the ground but then that is always subject to change in this neck of the woods .
i seriously do need to sit with all my Cd's and look for pictures of Alaska to post here for you. i love taking pictures when i have a good digital camera that is. last really good one i had i loaned to my son when he was home on leave he left it unattended in our truck walked off just long enough for someone to steal it. so i bought a new one cheep as could be . sigh never ever settle for anything cheep in cameras i should have known because this thing is a piece of ____ ____ one picture same setting is perfect the next one is as bad as bad can be.
but i do have some awesome pictures of Alaska to share.
awe but right now it is so silent in the house and outside too. you cant see or hear anything moving and the loudest sound anywhere is the sound of my key board making noise as i type away.
last night i was busy working on knitting a hat . i love knitting and i do allot of that no matter what time of year it is. if you want to know more about that visit my blog at http://knitmewarm.blogspot.com/ there you will find me talking and talking about knitting .
here i like to tell story's or share the mundane life of living in Alaska
anyway. i ran out of yarn and of course when no stores are open . isn't that when it happens ? yep totally awful. so now i wait patiently for 11 am to come around so i can go buy one more skein and then i can finish this latest hat.
i really feel for allot of people living down in the middle states and up in the new England states this year . because their weather and amount of snow has us here in Alaska beat hands down. right now there is no snow on the ground even though we had some yesterday. all that is gone now and i am actually beginning to see my rhubarb sprouting outside. just a wee bit but it is sprouting. so i know spring is just around the corner.
and yep this year i am so tired of snow and ice and wind and rain and so ready for a change. i want to get out more and more this year. would walk to the library but there is so much ice on the ground here in parts its not worth the risk just yet to walk around. so i do allot of driving . drive here and there. and drive some more. but i am out and about all the time as much as i can be.
cabin fever can be a really bad thing if you don't do something to keep the thing at bay. so i knit allot. and dream of warmer places.
OK enough said this time enjoy your day i have to go get more coffee .

My Grandma Your Grandma
in a land far far away ............
isn't that how it all starts. that is the popular way to begin any good book anyone wants to write be it for a tv show or a movie or just a good winters night read.
what happened to writing from the heart?
telling it like it is or saying what your feeling right now?
putting it all down for self or future?
oh yea its called a diary... a journal. shades of talking to self on paper. oops could it be therapy?
am i rambling again? or just venting? using up space boring anyone who is reading ?
ok all that set aside.
time for a grand boring adventure LOL
last week end i had the kids ....... got to love the times i have with them as i know eventually and as time rushes into the future there will come a time when they will move on and our times well become memories to warm a cold lonely night with .
sounds like wood on a fire dont it ?
i had layed in a lot of fruit for the event ,want them to get in alot of oranges and stuff to ward off colds. and wanted to make sure were not just laying around doing nothing so to speek.
it all has to be quality time . time well spent. kodak moments making memories moments . those future logs of warmth looking back kind of times .
we went shopping and bought alot of things to keep our selves busy jig saw puzzles and fish and we went looking around every where we didnt just sit home we went to the malls both of them off to dinner out . costco, freds ,joanns, supper bear, in fact one day i remarked we had been driving around for three hours just going from one place to the next LOL we looked through knitting books and mandy planned out some hats for me to knit. timmy planned out some games to play on x box, jig saw puzzles to do. and a possible list of things to do to clean my truck.
awe but for me it wasnt always this way......
and here it goes............
i remember a time long long ago in another life so it seems when i was but a kid following my own grandmother around. like a lost little puppy with nothing to do.
every wrinkle on her face to me was beautful and told a story and kept me in awe of her long lived life.
she worn a skirt all the time one that came down below her knees and a long sleeve shirt and a beautiful wool sweater over all that with long off white knit stockings and she kept a scarf over her snow white hair which she kept short. very rarely did she ever wear pants.
my grams would get up early each morning and begin her day the same way. with out varying it one bit so i remember.
or was that routine strictly for me?
at the age of 80 years young she would get up and stoke the log fire in her indoors cast iron cooking stove which of course was black with age . well seasoned with use and time.
and then set about to get her water boiled after she had gone to the nearest stream to fetch it in a metal bucket she hoisted onto the stove. once it was warm enough she would put her deterants and bleach in the bucket and take out a small natural bristled scrub brush and get on her hands and knees and scrub the floors of her two room cabin.
breakfast done i would arrive about then. and the two of us would take off. grams didnt say much to me i just followed along .
the summer mornings would find us down at the beach saying hi to grandpa who had been out in his boat earlier and had brought in what ever his catch for the day was. be it fish seal or crab or maybe even a halibut. we would greet him take his catch fill up his meal buckets and coffee thermus and wave good bye as he rowed away again to go gather more of what was needed to help make it through a long cold winter.
grams would skin the seals and stretch the hide or clean the fish and get those ready for smoking or what ever else needed to be done to begin the process of perserving the food items grandpa brought home .
we would then go to the smoke house and spend the rest of the am working on getting things either ready to be smoked and hung right or making sure the fish or meat in the smoke house was turned right and the fire wood was cut and stacked ready for use. and she would make sure the fire was set right.
those mornings along the beaches were awesome beautiful full of life and so full of the sounds of nature. that sometimes even today i can smell and hear them coming out of the past so long ago full of the original breath takingly beauty they held.
once grams was sure all was done we hiked back to her cabin and she would sit on the floor of her bedroom and take out her mococcin making supplies from her steamer trunk and we would sit for a long time while she hummed softly to me and herself and she would bead her moccosin tops and sew what she had for that day to do.
later on when she got as much done as she wanted we would go to her kitchen area and she would turn the coggles she had hanging by the stove to dry or she would make sure the special fish she was softening for my dad was going along as planned.
a proper lunch of fish stew or clam chower with pilot bread crackers and we were off again for the rest of the day until it was time to hand me back to my mom who was busy working in the cannery.
buckets in hand it was time to brave the forrest and gather berries and hudson bay tea. or go out in a row boat with grandpa and gather seaweed or other items
my days ended long after grams days. because once home i had alot of things to do myself and as i grew those lists got longer.
but when i was so small and i needed grams care ...my days eneded with me sitting on the edge of the bridge that spanned the tiny but loud river outside our three room cabin. dangling my feet over the edge enjoying a dunginess crab fest or some other such sea food dish. taking in all the beauty of nature that was before me .
i loved my grams, honored her and respected her all i could at any age i was in life . she had vast knowlege of things i had none in and to me that was awesome. i leaned tons from her even though our words togeather were very few and far between.
and i miss her often when i happen to think back to being a kid one time long long ago in what to me and modern times seems like a land far far way.

oh good grief can it get any weirder around here? ok ok so i am on a mission , seem to do alot of those these days of course it comes with the terrritory of living with the grands. this mission was to go to costco and buy some tang since its kai mans visit again today and tomorrow. last night a friend of hubbys came over and put a ggood tire on the truck for me since that am when mike an i were on our way to get his last pay check we discovered we had a flat tire . good thing it was while we were in the drive way and not out on the road. unfotunitly that put a major crink in our getting around for that day. but today i was on a roll. cookies too GG grams kai asked as i left. i am happy just getting out the door wish i had a car seat sometimes i would take him with i bet he is a hoot to shop with driving along singing at the top of my lungs " fly me to the moon" and i get out on eagn drive just happy as a good old alaskan clam. turn the major corner at 55 and from there on out is is all straight shot driving right to the next turn off. butttttttttt i suddenly stop singing and i am yelling HOLY CRAP !!!!!!!!!! there were mattresses all over 3/4 of the road.!!!!!!! some poor lady moving her stuff dumped her bunk beds and single beds all over the road mattresses bed rails you name it all over the place and she is in the middle of the highway with traffic coming at her trying her best to drag what she can off the highway. there was absolutly now were to bail at . and i am stomping on my breaks hoping like mad i dont run into the person in front of me. whohad to come to a complete hault to keep from running over all of this stuff. sooooo once i got safely around i went on my way and bought tang pepsi oranges bannanas and i even found time to bake cookies the costco way LOL guess we can add mattresses to that ever growing bunch of it rains here huh LOL what in the world would i do with out god in my life. .......... hummm dont even want to know but sure am glad my gardian angel was driving with me today _________________Hugs and love and tons of prayers from me Crissy in Alaska
I got a post from someone I know asking me if it was true. after all its all over the news even i saw it as a ticker down on the bottom of fox news.
Juneau Alaska was with out power for awhile because an eagle holding a deer head flew into a power box they later found the eagle dead.

My reply was this .

yep its all over the news up here. I lost ours for a second but my daughter was with out for over an hour. talk about the pits now we can actually say in Alaska it don't rain cats and dogs it rains eagles and deer heads LOL hey nothing like being Alaskan got to change it all, even our animals are on that wave length.

Of course leave it to me to think what was that eagle thinking hum maybe he was mad at the state legislators for some reason and decided to dive bomb the place. Gesh ya never know huh. Maybe Bush can add this eagle to his list of known terrorists LOL no no wait the eagle died in the deer head bombing. oh daaaaaaaaa I get it a suicide deer head bombing eagle. LOL
For shame crissy the eagle is our national bird. ok with that I am going to go do penance and clean my house. drink large amounts of coffee and drive away in my truck that the flat is now fixed on.:)

and here you thought I just made this stuff up huh?:) like my daughter said though when she found out why she was late for work hey its a Manic Monday Alaskan style LOL

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
here is the actual news paper clip from Juneau Empire our local news paper
author below the article
About 10,000 Juneau residents lost power Sunday after a bald eagle lugging a deer head crashed into an Alaska Electric Light & Power transmission system in Lemon Creek."You have to live in Alaska to have this kind of outage scenario," said Gayle Wood, an AEL&P spokeswoman. "This is the story of the overly ambitious eagle who evidently found a deer head in the landfill."
The meal was apparently too heavy. The eagle failed to clear transmission lines as it flew from the landfill toward the Lemon Creek Operation Center, she said. When a repair crew arrived, they found the eagle carcass with the deer head nearby.
The outage started about 9:45 a.m. and affected customers in Salmon Creek, Lemon Creek, the Mendenhall Valley and Out the Road, Wood said. It was completely fixed by 10:28 a.m.
"It was a speedy recovery because a crew was already mobilized, and because a customer managed to hear the explosion," Wood said. "So we were able to narrow it in pretty quickly."
The landfill has a program in place to discourage eagles, ravens and other birds from feeding, she said. But this eagle "got a hold of a little bit more than he could handle."
"This would have been a major score," Wood said. "That eagle would have been the king eagle of the Lemon Creek group."
now dont get me wrong i love winter just as much as the next guy. my son loves the rain LOL call me nuts but everyone has limits right?
today mine kicked in high gear. ughhhhhhhh i did my best to walk the dogs outside. but decided as i was trying like mad to hang onto anything i could that i didnt want to try out for the ice capades no wayyyyyy . i managed to get them out there though. and slipped every which way i could think of on all that ice. geshhhhhhh grabbing at the tail of my 4 wheel drive truck i did my best not to fall but had visions of sliding under the dang thing LOL i kept begging both dogs not to pull on me to hard. please i dont want to spend any time in any casts at all unless it is maybe a cast of some good play on stage LOL not sure i could pull that off again but sounds like fun.
i am beginning to have vissions of spring and summer and i am bitting at the bit to get out there and enjoy it all. go put me toes in some sand and enjoy the salt air. see how long i can watch as the clouds roll by me and watch the fish swim by while others fish. and of course drag my camera with and tuck some colored pencils under my arm and just go go go until the snow flys again.
yep i think i am more then ready. but until that time comes i guess its just another week end of taking cyber vactions and running amuck on line . told my cuz that in email she said ok but while your out there dont run anyone over ok. sighhhhhh ok ok i will be careful. and while i was reading that i was thinking what is the speed limit on line anyway LOL
oh cool i am upgraded LOL
anyway. i got this phone call today from my son now living in the portland area and he said they have snowwwwww! he is just happy about it to see something of home in an area he probably wouldnt normally see.
he laughs at the way others drive in snow . why because he grew up in alaska with snow so deep sometimes you would gettup in the am depending on the type of car you were driveing and about have to dig it out before you could drive away. it was so deep at times i would think we would soon need some sort of red flags tied to our antannas just to be able to locate the cars LOL
fact is i havent seen this much snow like were getting this year in ages. but that is ok i am enjoying every last flake of it . because its not here for long anyway. and yea your stuck at home alot of times but hey those are times well spent by this gal.
i got hobbies you know yep armed and dangrous with hobbies.
besides cleaning the same room until i wear it out .
i do things like knit up a storm LOL this is the time of year i get ahead on things like next years christmas list .
or i read books and go on adventures and vacations through those.
or i so alot of working on scrapbooks here
or making cards
or i do alot of blogging or running around on line taking vertual tours of other places i may never get to see
and of course i have the tv with cable to fall back on if all else fails LOL
am i ever totally alone. not on your life. there is always a stream of family members running through here.
ok enough of me time to go have coffee.
am coffee and earthquakes?
ugh....... thought the story about the snow plow driver was funny . well this one isnt .
i am sitting here at my pc getting ready to post to my knitting blog when the house shook. not to bad and i am thinking who is moving heavey equipment this time of the am. i got used to that when they were moving the debree of the old chruch across the way that burned .
but something said stand up and take a look see. cause the shaking got worse. all i did was get up and step into the frontroom and the old hurricane lamps on top of the entertainment center were rocking wildly and making that glass banging sound. the house began to sway and not gently at all.
i began to feel massive fear and began to yell at my sleeping grandson on the couch and my hubby in the bedroom "EARTHQUAKE EARTHQUAKE!!!!" none of us was dressed or ready for this at all. and to run out in our pjs in this cold alaskan weather would have been just as bad as standing still in the middle of a door jam . our grandson didnt move one inch but hubby ran as he could to the bedroom door.
we found out it wa a 5.7 or greater center of which was about 100 miles away.
that is way to close for comfort for me .
our daugher called from the valley " mom did you ??????? i said the earthquake sure did she said " i thought that was what it was thought i was loosing it and feeling things that werent happening. finally she said it shook her home so bad her front door popped open.
am i still in my pj's????? not on your life. no way i went right to my room and got dressed. shoved usb port plug and plays in my pockets a flash light my usb port sony walkman
and my cell phone and adapter so just in case if i have to i can recharge it.
jsut the basics i got one of those usb ports that i can back up the pcs with 8 gigs
after the fire across the street and having to grab and run then i am slowly working on getting everything down to shove in pockets and run leave it all behind that is to bulky to carry.
oh sigh what a way to begin a day.
nothing like winter and tons of snow. ugh. frist it snows then it rains then it melts and then it freezes and then it begins all over again.
buttttttttttttt
last night while we were driving home in the middle of a snow storm it was just breath takingly beautiful. as the car went foraward in motion we were treated to what looked like a scene out of star wars. snow coming at us dancing across the windshield as though to its own unheard music yet streaking by so fast at times it looked like a million stars going by fast on their way to who knows where.
visablity was some where if lucky one city block and ours here are not long city blocks. and that was even when we got off the high way and onto regular sity blocks .
all that for 5 inches of snow. it is now 7:10 am and its pitch black out there. awe well it wont be long and spring will be here and then it will be time to go see the world with out the snow and enjoy life with some heat and sunshine and go walk the beaches and dip me toes in the cool alaskan waters. :)
have a wonderful year where ever you are.
